Capacity building
WHO offers a range of training opportunities to support Member States:
- Online training modules with a basic introduction to behavioural and cultural insights (LEARN BCI).
- In-country training tailored to a specific behavioural and cultural insights (BCI) implementation project.
- In-country workshop to integrate BCI approaches into a specific area of work, for example antimicrobial resistance, obesity or vaccination.
- In-country workshop to develop a national BCI strategy or to develop a health topic plan that integrates BCI approaches. A health topic plan can relate to, for example, cancer, immunization or noncommunicable diseases.
- In-country support to establish a BCI Unit or strengthen capacity on BCI within the ministry of health or institute of public health.
An interdisciplinary and evidence-based approach is applied, drawing on a variety of disciplines, such as behavioural science and economics, anthropology, sociology, and cultural studies. Workshops introduce BCI-related theoretical models that can be used to explore the barriers and drivers of health behaviours as well as frameworks that help translate this insight into evidence-based health policies, services and communication.
